Who We Treat

Expectant Moms

Simply put, pregnancy is a miracle!

One cell from mom and one cell from dad multiplies and differentiates to form a perfect little baby with 10 fingers and toes. Heart muscle, bones, brain, skin...everything comes from these two simple cells! So many complex systems working together not missing a perfect intersect. Casually thinking about this for a few seconds takes your breath away.

Pregnancy and birth is one of the most profound experiences a woman will ever go through. Morning sickness and other complications can sometime shift the emphasis from savoring the blessing to worry and discomfort.

The pelvis frequently gets strained during the birthing process and correcting this before the maternal ligaments tighten up again is ideal.

Osteopathic Treatment for Pregnant Women can help with:

  • Baby doesn’t drop
  • Back and joint pain
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Carpal tunnel symptoms
  • Helps prevent birth injuries to mum and babe
  • Indigestion
  • Labor doesn’t start when it is supposed to
  • Malposition (breech or transverse lie)
  • Pelvic floor dysfunction causing constipation or bladder dysfunction
  • Recovery from the birth process including epidural injection
  • Swelling
  • Symphysis pubis dysfunction
  • Varicose veins and hemorrhoids

Osteopathic Manipulation is a very safe and gentle resource during pregnancy and postpartum. It can also make recovery from birth easier for Mom and Babe. Our highly trained Osteopaths are here to help make your pregnancy experience as joyful as possible by offering Osteopathy & Massage therapy to help enhance circulation, balance the hormonal and nervous systems and ensure pelvic mobility.

It is the nature of babies to be in bliss.

Most people think of the birthing process as being extremely difficult on the mom, but no one thinks about how hard it is for the newborn. Newborns have soft and malleable bones designed to overlap and glide over each other, enabling them to pass through the birth canal. The normal process of eating, breathing, and crying helps regulate the bones in the course of a few days, but in some cases a strain develops. If left untreated, this minor strain becomes magnified as the tissues multiply and grow. This is where an Osteopath can help.

During this period the baby is making 250,000 neurons EVERY MINUTE. These precious little brain cells can have effects on the future IQ, athletic ability or emotional stability of the child.

Treating newborn babies after birth can have exceptional results, as their bodies are in a continual state of change. Cranial osteopathy is a very safe and gentle course of treatment for newborns.

Osteopathic Treatment for Newborns can help with:

  • Breastfeeding challenges (difficulty latching, preference for feeding on one side)
  • Digestive concerns (spitting-up, gas, constipation)
  • Excessive crying, irritability, difficulty settling, colic, sleep disturbances
  • Failure to thrive
  • Neurological problems including seizures
  • Plagiocephaly or any “odd shaped head”
  • Recovery from the birth process – as much as it hurts the mother it must hurt the baby much more
  • Torticollis
  • Troubles regaining birth weight

Cranial Osteopathic Treatment in Newborns is completely safe and gentle. Our Osteopathic Physicians have a very special place in their heart for our newly born & Osteopathic treatment can help ensure proper development and avoid risks that may result in life long consequences.

Teenagers are free verse walking on two legs.

The process of becoming a young adult is an exciting time full of challenges. During puberty the growing bones reach their full adult size and the growth plates fuse. This is an ideal time to treat any distortion such as scoliosis in the bones before these strains get cemented into place.

If the hormonal system, which is working hard to prepare the body for adult reproductive roles, misfires it can cause imbalances such as migraines. Treating the neuroendocrine hormonal system as a single unit of function can help this system to get up and running as smoothly as possible.

Sports injuries, heavy backpacks, part time jobs requiring repetitive motions, overuse of electronic devices and pressures from socializing create a balancing act that can make coping difficult for teenagers. These common teenage stressors can manifest into structural or functional disturbances such as mental or emotional instabilities, headaches or difficulty concentrating. Osteopathy seeks to re-establish the homeostatic balance point around which all of these systems are functioning.

Osteopathic Treatment for Teenagers is can help with:

  • Anxiety
  • Back and neck pain
  • Behavioral problems
  • Scoliosis
  • Migraines
  • Headaches
  • Irritability
  • Jaw, Orthodontic & Dental Issues
  • Learning difficulties
  • Asthma & Allergies
  • PMS
  • Postural problems
  • Sports Injuries
  • Sleeping Issues
  • Pre Concussion Screening
  • Post Concussion Management & Treatment

Insight Osteopathic Medicine provides a unique perspective and unexpected solutions to the health challenges your teen faces. By working with parents to round out their teen’s support system we can help make the transition from child to young adult more successful. We love to watch your teens grow into thriving young adults able to face the challenges of school, work, and life head on.

Adults are only fully grown children after all.

As we reach adulthood, we begin to recognize that our bodies are not invincible. Minor strains are magnified and take longer to heal. Harmful long term effects of bad diet, lack of exercise, physical traumas, sedentary jobs, exposure to harsh toxins and damaging emotional influences begin to take a toll on our minds, bodies and spirits. No longer the weekend warrior, people often resign to the fact that they must suffer aches, pains, and stiffness as they age.

It is well known that as we age we require more medical care, however; traditional treatments frequently have adverse side effects. At Insight Osteopathic Medicine, we can help you determine which conditions are safe to manage without surgery or medication, and if surgery is recommended, we can significantly benefit you during the recovery process.

Structural Imbalances

We’ve all heard stories of people bending over to make the bed or pick up a pen, or simply sneezing and their back just “went out,” causing weeks of agony. This is often the result of small injuries and structural imbalances that can build up over time until your body reaches its breaking point, and “Ouch! There it goes.” It doesn’t always happen overnight, but catching these imbalances early in adulthood can correct and prevent painful occurrences later in life.

Middle Age

As we reach middle age, the osteopath can help the body adapt to changing hormones including their effects on decreased circulation and metabolism, the musculo-skeletal system, women experiencing menopausal symptoms, and men undergoing changes in their testosterone levels.

Lifestyle Changes

Osteopaths can help adults sort out the few lifestyle changes that will provide the most benefits to their unique circumstances. We may suggest that you adjust the ergonomics of your work station, or develop a custom strengthening and stretching program designed to increase mobility. We may also suggest a few dietary changes that will help with weight management, decrease disparaging symptoms, and increase energy.

Osteopathic Treatment for adults can help with:

  • Arthritic knees and hips
  • Back pain
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Digestive disorders
  • Endocrine disorders
  • Ergonomic insufficiencies
  • Menopausal symptoms
  • Neck stiffness
  • Osteoporosis
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Shoulder pain
  • Osteoarthritis

The primary reason adults seek care from an osteopath is to relieve pain, but once treated, they begin to notice other conditions they’ve learned to live with getting better and better.

At Insight Osteopathic Medicine, we believe in treating acute injuries as soon and completely as possible to avoid future long term consequences. By restoring flexibility and health to parts of the body that have become degenerative, Osteopaths significantly reduce the need for medication, injections and surgery. During the course of our treatment, we may order additional labs or recommend that you see a specialist. It is always our intention to provide the best course of treatment for our patients.

Everyone knows aging is inevitable, but did you know it is possible to age more gracefully?

Now that you’ve reached the golden years of retirement and have time to do all the things you’ve been longing to do—the pain, stiffness, and lack of mobility associated with getting older prevents you from enjoying life to its fullest.

As we get older, the body loses elasticity and balance becomes more challenging, increasing the chance of injuring the soft tissues and bony structures. The body also loses some of its ability to recover from injuries or strains. Osteopathic Manipulation can help harness your body's natural healing systems. This can improve mobility, circulation and balance, reduce joint stiffness and help you lead a more fulfilling life.

Osteopathic Treatment for Elders can help with:

  • Arthritis and joint swelling
  • Back, neck and arm pain
  • Chronic pain
  • Digestive issues
  • Ergonomic advice
  • Fatigue
  • General stiffness
  • Headaches, migraines or chronic sinusitis
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Hip Pain
  • Knee and foot pain
  • Poor balance
  • Recovering from surgery
  • Repetitive strain injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis or golf elbow

Osteopathic Treatment for older adults can go a long way towards relieving many distressing conditions. At Insight Osteopathic Medicine, we offer safe, gentle, and effective techniques to improve your health, increase mobility, prevent further joint wear and tear, and help keep you active and independent.
